Valentine's Day

Well, here's my necessary Valentine's Day post, even if it's a few days late. I'm not actually dating anyone, but I guess I'm talking to someone, so I hung out with him on Friday. I knew I was going to get chocolate (he buys me chocolate anyways), but he surprised me with a bouquet of those colorful daisies, which I love. We got Panera for lunch, then went to work together, then attempted to go to Olive Garden for dinner...but there was a 45 minute wait. So we went to Applebees instead, which was as delicious as usual. Especially with my all-time favorite drink: their strawberry daiquiris. So, so good.

Crappy picture of my flowers when I first got them. Also, wearing a new shirt I got at Target for like $6. Score. And did my hair all fun. It looks nice to do it like this, and has the added bonus of making it curly if I do it while it's wet. You put a stretchy headband over your hair and then tuck your hair up over and under it, kind of wrapping it around the headband. It's pretty easy and I always get a lot of compliments on it.

When I went to work, my boss told me I had something waiting for me in the office, and turns out it was a pretty little rose bouquet. I had no idea who it was from, but apparently it was from my aunt. She does nice random things like that, so it was a wonderful little surprise. Plus, everyone was jealous. Haha. And here's my yummy Lindt chocolate truffles :)

New Makeup (Birchbox Jan/Feb, Ipsy Feb)

Okay, so I've been really excited the past few days because of all the new makeup I got. A few months ago, I discovered subscription makeup boxes. I had not known these even existed until then, and I'm quite sad about it. Basically, you pay $10 a month, which includes shipping, and you get sent a little package full of makeup and skin/hair care samples and such, including some full-sized items. It's awesome.

Birchbox and Ipsy are the ones I found, and I researched them some beforehand. Ipsy sounded better to me. I wanted to try new makeup, and most of it was decently high end. Not to mention it's pretty expensive to go out and buy makeup just to try it and then discover you don't like it much. Birchbox had more focus around skin and hair care, and some other random things. I guess I would describe it more as personal wellness? Just in what I've gotten so far. And there is definitely a focus on natural/organic things, or stuff for sensitive skin, so that's a plus if that's important to you. And so, since Ipsy had a waiting list when I signed up, so I decided to get Birchbox, which had less of a wait, until I could get Ipsy. For both of them, you fill out a little survey about your preferences and such. I'm not sure how much they follow that though.

Birchbox

I've gotten two Birchboxes so far, and I haven't been too impressed. I'm pretty set in my skincare routine, and I don't use many hair products, so that cancelled out some of the items I got. There were also just some odd products, and all of them were sample sized. One time use or a few times, definitely nothing full size. But, still, it was very exciting to get the boxes in the mail and open them. It's like mini Christmas.

These are the contents of my first two Birchboxes, along with the box they came in. One of my favorite parts were the card they included in the first one. They were very bright and happy, and appealed to my inner graphic designer. Something else I like about Birchbox is that they include a list of the products, their use/instructions, and the price of the full-size item. But other than those two things, I wasn't super impressed.

Like I said, almost none of the products were full-sized, except for maybe the nail polish, which is way too glittery for me anyways. And, now, here is what I got in each of them. I have not used any yet.
January

Has olive oil in it, my friend says it's supposed to be really good

Coastal Scents
Revealed Palette Sampler
An adorable mini eyeshadow palette, in natural brown tones

Harvey Prince
Hello Perfume
A little mini mini spray bottle of perfume, smells pretty good. My sister says it reminds her of Victoria's Secret's Noir Tease, or Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture

Harney & Sons
Herbal teas
These are probably the lifestyle item or whatever. I don't like tea much, but it looks like pretty fancy, nice tea

Ipsy

This month, I got my first Ipsy 'glam bag'. These came in a shiny purple bubblewrap envelope, and inside there was a little pink makeup bag with the products inside. I guess you get a different makeup bag each month, and it's like a nice cloth one with a zipper. The products made me ecstatic. I've been raving to everyone how much I love Ipsy already and how they should sign up. I'm very excited to try out everything in it, and it's all definitely something I would wear, plus most of them were full-sized items.

February
City Color
Be Matte
A pretty, kind of salmon colored blush. Kind of bright for me I think, though

Zoya
Nail polish
A pale, light pink nail polish. Very subtle and pretty. My friend tells me it's a good brand

IPKN New York
BB Brightening and Wrinkle cream
Has sunblock, supposed to make your skin look better. The texture is very light

Pop Beauty
Plump PoutPeony Petal Lip color
Sort of a gloss, a good medium color that could be a day or night look.It plumps too

Tini Beauty
Eyetini Cordial Cream eyeshadow & base in one
Definitely my favorite item. Light and shimmery, great for everyday wear. Easy to put on and it's the perfect shade. Plus it's also a base, which I'm lacking in my supplies

Interested?

If you're interested in either of these (and I would definitely recommend!), then you can sign up through these links: (you don't have to use them, but I would get points if I refer people, and points can later be used for extra items, so it would be greatly appreciated if you were gonna sign up anyways :) )

Ipsy

Birchbox

And I think if you agree to share on Facebook or whatever when you sign up for Ipsy, you immediately get off the wait list.

Hello

This will be yet another attempt at me trying to run a blog. The most recent attempt was Tumblr and that quickly devolved into mindless reblogging of anything that grabbed my attention. But Tumblr isn't really a good platform for personal blogging anyways. Hopefully I can actually stick to this one and update it semi-regularly. I looked back on some posts from other blogs I had made and I found myself quite happy I had made them. They reminded me of a lot of little things I had forgotten. Sometimes it's just nice to have memories down in pictures or writing. That's not all this will be for, though. I want to give myself more of a purpose to blog, rather than simply rambling on about whatever boring event is happening in my life or my current annoyances.

I'm not going to narrow it down to one focus, but I have a few in mind that I'm excited to get into. I've been drawing more recently, so it would be nice to have a place to post it and keep it in one place. My deviantART account has long since been forgotten. I went through like...a 2 or 3 year period where I didn't draw much. Having to draw and make art for my homework once I went to a 4 year college kind of ruined my enthusiasm for doing it for fun. Not to mention that, on the rare occasion that I wanted to, I usually had other things that I should have been doing and so guilt further hampered that. I'm also taking one class this semester - my final one - so I should, in theory, have more time to do my design art. And since it's a portfolio class, I have much more freedom and kind of get to decide my own projects, so that should help me actually want to do it.

Makeup is another thing I want to try to talk about. I've gotten more into it recently (ever since my discovery of Bare Minerals and Dior mascara, it's been a slippery slope). I draw inspiration for this from my lovely friend Michelle (http://girly-gamer.blogspot.com/), who is basically the reason I decided to attempt another blog in the first place. She's adorable, and her posts always make me smile, with her range of subjects from fashion, to makeup, to butterbeer and video games.

And as for why I decided to start blogging tonight (the original plan had been to start at the beginning of the year, but that has clearly failed)...I discovered a wonderful thing called Ipsy. Well, I'd discovered it a few months ago, but I had been on a waiting list, so this is the first month I received my package. I'm going to make a separate post to explain more and show what I got, along with my other recent makeup purchases. Hopefully I will eventually (sooner rather than later), also get around to using them and posting my results. Considering I got them yesterday, when I've had two double shift days this weekend, I haven't gotten the chance to wear them yet. I'm excited.

So enough with the rambling. It's a start :p
